Patterson Electronics operate shared wide-area radio systems throughout Northern Ireland.

Costing only £27.50 per quarter per radio, with no call charges, we believe that our wide-area radio systems provide one of the most cost effective methods of keeping in touch on the move. Two-way radios are also exempt from the legislation relating to mobile phone use in vehicles.

Radios can be purchased or hired to use on the system. It may also be possible to use your existing radios radios, subject to compatibility.

Coverage

Below is a guide to the coverage from the various sites that we use. It may be possible to use more than one system to increase the available coverage:

• Belfast (3 sites providing varying coverage) – Up to 40 miles from Belfast including most of the A1, M1 and M2.
• Mid Ulster – Almost continuous coverage from Omagh to Belfast.
• Londonderry – Extensive coverage in Counties Londonderry, Tyrone and Donegal.
• Northlink – Portstewart to Glengormley, Cookstown to Ballymena, Dungannon to Lisburn + some useful spot coverage in Belfast.
• Northwest – Londonderry to Ballycastle, Portrush to Ballymena + a large area of Donegal.
• Brougher Mountain – Large areas of Fermanagh and Tyrone including the county towns of Enniskillen and Omagh.
• Mournelink – Almost continuous coverage from Rostrevor to Belfast via Newry.

• Two-way radio use is legal in moving vehicles – unlike mobile phones.
• Totally predictable running costs – airtime costs are fixed and no call charges.
• Instant two-way radio – no licence to apply, or pay, for.
• Very wide coverage – typically 3 or 4 times greater than that obtainable from an aerial on a radio user’s own premises.
• Direct communication between all radios – vehicles and hand held radios can talk to each other direct without the necessity of a base operator relaying messages as is the case with most non-repeater systems.
• Privacy – whilst our systems are shared other repeater users do not hear your messages. Equally important you do not have to listen to theirs.
